AWS NAT gateway cost calculator.

A NAT gateway charges per hour it exists and per GB it processes, on top of normal data transfer. Enter your setup to see the bill and the saving from sending S3 and DynamoDB traffic through free gateway endpoints.

Three NAT gateways in US East for a 730-hour month cost $98.55 before any traffic, and 2,000 GB processed adds $90.00, for $188.55. Routing 1,000 GB of S3 traffic through a free gateway endpoint saves $45.00.

Method and limits

Formula. Hourly charge = gateways x hours x the regional NAT gateway hourly price (US East $0.045, Canada Central $0.05, Ireland $0.048). Data processing = GB x the per-GB price (the same figure as the hourly price in these regions). Each partial hour is billed as a full hour.

Endpoint saving. A gateway VPC endpoint for S3 or DynamoDB has no hourly or data processing charge, so traffic sent that way avoids the NAT per-GB fee. It only applies to S3 and DynamoDB in the same region, and the endpoint is added through route tables.

Not included. Standard data transfer charges (the optional field prices internet transfer without the free allowance), cross-Availability-Zone data transfer, regional NAT gateways with provisioned bandwidth, interface endpoints, EC2 and taxes.

Price date. List prices in USD, on-demand and pay-as-you-go, retrieved 2026-10-16 and stored in this page. Providers change prices without notice, so confirm on the provider's pricing page before you commit spend. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

FAQ

How much does a NAT gateway cost per month?

In US East a single NAT gateway costs $32.85 a month for hours alone ($0.045 x 730), plus $0.045 for every GB processed. In Canada (Central) the same three-gateway, 2,000 GB setup costs $209.50.

Do I pay for NAT data processing and data transfer?

Yes. AWS states that standard data transfer charges apply to data transferred through the NAT gateway, in addition to the per-GB processing fee.

How do I reduce NAT gateway costs?

Send S3 and DynamoDB traffic through gateway VPC endpoints, which have no additional charge, and use fewer gateways if your availability needs allow it.

Is a partial hour billed?

Yes, each partial NAT gateway hour is billed as a full hour.

Why one gateway per Availability Zone?

Many designs run one per zone so a zone failure does not cut off the others. That multiplies the hourly charge, which is why the calculator takes a gateway count.
