Vehicle safety inspection requirements by province.
There is no single Canadian rule: some provinces require an inspection on every ownership change, some only in narrow situations, one requires it annually regardless, and three don't require it at all.
Prince Edward Island is the only province requiring a mandatory annual inspection. Quebec, by contrast, does not require one for an ordinary private sale — only for salvage/rebuilt, import, or long-stored vehicles. Both provincial emissions-testing programs that once existed in Canada (BC's AirCare, Ontario's Drive Clean) are now cancelled.

Do I need an emissions test to sell my car in Canada?
