Canada employment amount calculator.
A federal non-refundable credit almost every T4 employee can claim — no receipts required. It's simply the lesser of a fixed dollar amount and your total employment income.
You can claim whichever is less: a fixed $1,471 (2025) or your total employment income (line 10100 plus line 10400). Most full-time employees hit the fixed cap; only very low employment income limits the claim.

Why almost every employee gets this
The Canada employment amount recognizes work-related costs (uniforms, home computers, supplies) WITHOUT requiring receipts. You claim whichever is smaller: the fixed federal amount, or your total employment income for the year. Because the fixed amount is only $1,471 (2025), almost anyone earning more than that from a job in the year claims the full fixed amount — the income-based limit only bites for very short or very low-paid employment (e.g. a student who worked a few weeks).
Non-refundable, and it indexes every year
This is a non-refundable federal credit: it reduces tax you owe, it can't create a refund by itself, and it converts to a dollar credit at the lowest federal rate (14% for 2026). CRA indexes the fixed $1,471 figure annually for inflation — the amount shown here is the 2025 figure published on CRA's own line page at the time this tool was verified; check canada.ca for the current year's exact number before filing.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need receipts to claim this?
No. It's a flat amount available to anyone with employment income, up to the annual cap — no supporting receipts are required for this specific line.
I only worked part of the year — do I still get the full amount?
You get the LESSER of the fixed amount or your total employment income. If your total employment income for the year is below $1,471 (2025), your claim is capped at whatever you actually earned.
Is this the same as the employment expenses deduction (T777)?
No — those are separate. The Canada employment amount is automatic and receipt-free. The T777 employment expenses deduction is a different claim for specific work-from-home or employer-required costs, with its own eligibility conditions.
Will the $1,471 figure change for 2026?
Yes — CRA indexes this amount annually for inflation. This tool shows the 2025 figure published on CRA's line page at the time of verification; confirm the current year's exact number at canada.ca before filing.
Estimate only — federal credit, not tax advice
This tool calculates the FEDERAL Canada employment amount only, from the employment income you provide. It does not verify your T4 amounts, does not calculate provincial equivalents (most provinces do not offer a parallel amount), and uses the 2025 fixed dollar figure published by CRA at verification time. Verify current-year amounts at canada.ca before filing, or confirm with a tax professional.
