How the countdown works
Your retirement date is your birth date plus your retirement age. The days left are the difference between that date and today. Weeks are days ÷ 7, weekdays count Monday to Friday between today and the date, and biweekly paychecks are the whole 14-day periods left. Working-life progress is the share of the time between the age you started working and your retirement date that has already passed.
Worked example. Born 15 June 1970, retiring at 65: the date is 15 June 2035. From 8 October 2026 that is 3,172 days, which is 453.1 weeks, 2,266 weekdays and 226 biweekly paychecks (8 years and 8 months). If you started working at 22, you would be 79.8% of the way through your working life. The page recalculates from today’s date whenever you open it.
Weekdays do not subtract holidays or vacation, and the paycheck count assumes a 14-day pay cycle that continues unbroken. The retirement date is your plan, not the date benefits start: the Government of Canada lists the OAS pension for people aged 65 and over, and Medicare.gov says initial enrollment is generally when you turn 65. Check your own eligibility dates with the program.
Frequently asked questions
How many days until I retire?
Enter your birth date and planned retirement age. The tool counts the days from today to the date you reach that age.
Does the weekday count remove holidays?
No. It counts every Monday to Friday. Subtract the paid holidays and vacation days you expect to get a working-day figure.
Can I use a half year, like 62.5?
Yes. The decimal part is converted to months and added to the birth date.
Is my retirement date the same as when benefits start?
Not necessarily. Pension and health coverage have their own eligibility ages. Check them with each program.
