Answer
Pure gold = weight x karat / 24. A gram of 14k holds 0.5833 g of gold, 10k holds 0.4167 g and 18k holds 0.7500 g. Divide by 31.1034768 to get troy ounces, then multiply by the gold spot price you enter.
Worked example
Spot $2,000.00 per troy ounce (an example, not a quote). 10 g of 14k: 10 x 14/24 = 5.833 g of gold. 6 g of 10k: 6 x 10/24 = 2.500 g. Total 8.333 g = 0.2679 troy oz x $2,000.00 = $535.85 melt value.
How it works
Pure gold weight = total weight x karat / 24, because karat counts parts of gold per 24 parts. Units: 1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 g, 1 pennyweight (dwt) = 1.55517384 g (24 grains), 1 avoirdupois ounce = 28.349523125 g. Melt value = pure troy ounces x spot price.
What this is not. Melt value is the gold in the piece at the spot price you typed. Weigh the piece without stones, clasps or solder you do not want counted, as they are not gold. Many countries hallmark 14k as 585 parts per thousand (58.5%) while 14/24 is 58.33%; this calculator uses the karat definition 14/24, so a hallmarked 585 piece can hold slightly more. Buyers pay a percentage of melt that varies; the payout field models one offer.

How much is a pennyweight of gold in grams?
One pennyweight is 1.55517384 g, and 20 pennyweights make one troy ounce.
Why does a dealer offer less than melt value?
Dealers pay a percentage of melt to cover refining, risk and margin. Use the payout field to compare offers.
Is 14k exactly 58.3% gold?
