Answer

Gold price per gram = spot price per troy ounce / 31.1034768. Multiply by karat / 24 for other karats. At a $2,000.00 spot, 24k is $64.30 per gram, 18k is $48.23, 14k is $37.51 and 10k is $26.79.

Worked example

Spot $2,000.00 per troy ounce (an example, not a quote). 2,000 / 31.1034768 = $64.30 per gram of 24k. 14k is 14/24 of that: 64.30 x 0.5833 = $37.51 per gram. A pennyweight (1.55517384 g) of 14k is $58.33. At an 80% payout, 14k comes to $30.01 per gram.

How it works

Per gram (24k) = spot / 31.1034768. Per gram (other karat) = that x karat / 24. Per pennyweight = per gram x 1.55517384. One troy ounce is 31.1034768 g and one pennyweight is 24 grains, 20 pennyweights to the troy ounce. The payout column multiplies melt value by the percentage you enter; it models one buyer's offer and is not a market rate. To price an actual piece, weigh it without stones and use the scrap gold calculator.

How much is a gram of 14k gold worth?

How much is a pennyweight of gold?

One pennyweight is 1.55517384 g, so multiply the per-gram price by 1.55517384. At a $2,000.00 spot, a pennyweight of 24k is $100.00.

Buyers typically pay a percentage of melt value to cover refining and margin. Use the payout field to model an offer.

Does this fetch the live gold price?
