Gaming Calculators

Game library storage.

Enter the drive size, space you want to keep free for Windows and other files, and how many games you have in three size groups. You get the total storage, what is left and how many more average-size games fit. Runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.

GB

500 GB, 1000 GB (1 TB), 2000 GB (2 TB) and so on, in decimal units.

Worked example

A 2,000 GB drive with 200 GB reserved leaves 1,800 GB. Ten 20 GB games, five 100 GB games and two 150 GB games total 200 + 500 + 300 = 1000 GB across 17 games (an average of 58.8 GB). That uses 55.6% of the usable space and leaves 800 GB, room for about 13 more average-size games.

How it works

Total = sum of (count x size); left = drive - reserved - total; more games = left divided by the average game size, rounded down. Drives are sold in decimal units (1 TB = 1,000 GB), but Windows and some other systems display binary units under the GB label. The Binary prefix - Wikipedia article gives the decimal-to-binary ratio for gigabytes as about 0.9313, so a 1,000 GB drive shows as roughly 931 in those units. That is not lost space; it is a different unit.

Game sizes grow with patches and optional packs, and some launchers need temporary space while installing, so keep spare room above the total. Check each game's size in your launcher; this page does not include a list of game sizes because they change with every update.

FAQ

How many games fit on a 1 TB SSD?

It depends on the games. With 150 GB reserved, 850 GB is usable: about 14 games at 60 GB each, or 56 games at 15 GB each. Enter your own sizes above.

Why does my 1 TB drive show as 931 GB?

The drive is sold as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes (1 TB, decimal), while Windows shows binary units labelled GB. 1,000 GB decimal is about 931 binary GB.

How much space should I leave free on a game SSD?

There is no fixed rule. Leaving some free space helps installs, updates and drive performance; many people aim for around 10 to 20%. That is a common habit, not a published standard.

Do game sizes change?

Yes. Patches, DLC and high-resolution texture packs often add tens of gigabytes after launch, so check the current size in your launcher.

Does this include save files and shader caches?

No. Count them in the reserved space if they matter to you.
