Worked example
80 hours at $60 an hour is $4,800.00. At a 10% service fee Upwork takes $480.00 and you keep $4,320.00, $51,840.00 a year. The same month would leave $4,560.00 at 5% and $4,080.00 at 15%. To keep $50 an hour after a 10% fee, bill $55.56.
How it works
Upwork's help article says the freelancer service fee ranges from 0% to 15% per contract and is shown when a client sends an offer or you submit a proposal. Once the offer is sent the fee is fixed for that contract. The article adds that freelancers working with Enterprise clients typically pay 10%, and that Direct Contracts carry a 5% fee.
Because there is no single standard rate, this calculator asks for the percentage on your own offer and compares the reference rates side by side. Upwork returns the service fee on any amount refunded to the client. Withdrawal charges depend on the payout method and are not modelled; taxes are not included either.
Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent or stored.
