How it works
- On-device: the free tier calls your browser's own speech synthesis engine (the Web Speech API) — the text never leaves your device.
- Voice quality: free voices are whatever your OS/browser ships (Chrome, Edge and Safari all include a handful). They're serviceable, not natural.
- Long text: anything you paste is automatically split into sentence-sized chunks so long passages don't stall the browser's speech queue.
Free vs Premium
Free uses your browser's built-in voices at zero cost — audio plays live and can't be saved as a file. Premium is reserved for natural neural voices (OpenAI/ElevenLabs) that render an actual downloadable MP3; that upgrade path is gated and ready, and goes live once the neural voice backend ships.
