How it is calculated
Federal withholding is IRS Publication 15-T (2026) Worksheet 1A for a Form W-4 from 2020 or later: annualise taxable wages, subtract the $8,600 standard amount ($12,900 if married filing jointly), apply the annual percentage-method table, and divide by pay periods. Social Security is 6.2% up to the 2026 wage base of $184,500, Medicare is 1.45% with no limit, and Additional Medicare Tax is 0.9% beyond $200,000 in the year (IRS Publication 15, 2026). New York: income-tax wages (gross minus the pre-tax amounts you enter) are annualised, reduced by the annual Table A amount ($7,400 single, $7,950 married, plus $1,000 per exemption), then taxed with the Method II annual rate schedule in NYS-50-T-NYS (1/26) and divided by pay periods. SDI is 0.5% of gross pay up to 60 cents a week; Paid Family Leave is 0.432% of gross pay up to $411.91 a year. This estimate subtracts both pre-tax entries from New York wages; confirm your employer’s treatment. New York City and Yonkers tax are not included. Not covered: W-4s from 2019 or earlier, bonuses and other supplemental wages (flat-rate rules apply), local taxes unless stated, and wage bracket method rounding.

FAQ
What are New York PFL and SDI deductions?
The New York Department of Financial Services sets the 2026 Paid Family Leave employee contribution at 0.432% of wages each pay period, up to an annual maximum of $411.91. The Workers’ Compensation Board says the employee disability contribution is one half of one percent of wages, up to 60 cents a week. This calculator applies both to the gross pay you enter.
Does this include New York City or Yonkers tax?
No. It estimates New York State withholding only, using the annual schedule in NYS-50-T-NYS (1/26). City and Yonkers withholding are separate and are not modelled.
When does this calculator stop working for New York?
NYS-50-T-NYS directs employers to Method III (top income tax rates) once annualised net wages reach $1,077,550 for single filers or $2,155,350 for married filers. The calculator flags that case instead of guessing.
How does New York take-home pay compare with Florida?
For a single filer paid $95,000 a year every two weeks with no pre-tax deductions, this calculator gives about $70,680 a year in New York and $75,663 in Florida, $4,983 less in New York. See the full list on the paycheck calculator by state.
Why does my real paycheck differ from this estimate?
Employers may use the wage bracket method, round differently, apply your exact Form W-4 and state withholding certificate, and withhold local, benefit and other amounts this tool does not model. Treat the result as an estimate, not tax advice.
Does a 401(k) deferral lower Social Security and Medicare tax?
No. Per IRS Publication 15, elective 401(k) deferrals are exempt from federal income tax withholding but remain subject to Social Security and Medicare tax. Section 125 cafeteria-plan benefits such as health premiums generally are not.
When does Social Security tax stop?
After an employee’s wages for the year reach the 2026 wage base limit of $184,500. Enter wages already paid this year to see the cap applied to this check. Medicare has no limit; Additional Medicare Tax of 0.9% applies above $200,000.
