What TEER means
NOC 2021 replaced the old "Skill Level" system with TEER — Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities — six categories numbered 0 to 5. The second digit of every 5-digit NOC code is its TEER category.
- TEER 0: management occupations.
- TEER 1: usually requires a university degree (bachelor's, master's or doctorate).
- TEER 2: usually requires a 2–3 year college diploma or CEGEP, 2–5 years of apprenticeship training, or has supervisory duties or significant safety responsibility (e.g. police officers, firefighters).
- TEER 3: usually requires a college diploma or apprenticeship training under 2 years, or more than 6 months of on-the-job training with some secondary school.
- TEER 4: usually requires a secondary school diploma or several weeks of on-the-job training.
- TEER 5: usually requires only a short work demonstration and no formal education.
For most economic immigration programs, TEER 0, 1, 2 and 3 occupations are treated as skilled work; TEER 4 and 5 generally are not.

What is a NOC code?
A 5-digit code from the National Occupational Classification, Canada's official system for grouping occupations. The first digit is the broad occupational category, the second digit is the TEER category, and the remaining three digits identify the specific unit group.
Why can't I find my exact job title?
NOC unit groups cover a occupation family, not every possible job title. This tool includes 4,768 official example titles on top of the 516 unit group names, but if your specific title still doesn't appear, search a broader or more generic version of it (e.g. "software developer" rather than a specific tech-stack title).
Does my NOC code affect my CRS score?
Indirectly, yes. TEER category determines whether Canadian or foreign work experience counts as skilled work for Express Entry eligibility and for several CRS skill-transferability combinations. Confirm your NOC and TEER before relying on any CRS estimate.
