What this business plan maker produces
This tool turns six short answers into a clean one-to-two-page business plan PDF, built in your browser with nothing uploaded. You type your company name, industry and plan date, then fill six boxes: mission statement, problem we solve, our solution, target market, revenue model and 12-month milestones. The PDF opens with a centred title ("[Company] - Business Plan"), a line with your industry and date, then a heading and paragraph for each box you completed. Any box you leave blank is simply left out of the PDF.
It is a one-page plan, the kind you can hand to a co-founder, an adviser, a mentor or a bank contact as a starting point. It is not a full financial model, and it is not the long document a lender may ask for.
One page versus a full plan
The U.S. Small Business Administration describes two common formats. Traditional plans are detailed and can run to dozens of pages; lenders and investors commonly request them. Lean startup plans summarise only the most important points of the key elements, can take as little as an hour to make and are typically one page. This generator is aimed at the second kind, and it is also a good first draft for the first.
The SBA lists these common sections for a traditional plan: executive summary, company description, market analysis, organization and management, service or product line, marketing and sales, funding request and financial projections. The generator's six sections overlap with only some of them, and the table shows how.
| Section a lender may expect | Where it fits in this tool |
|---|---|
| Executive summary and company description | Mission statement and the problem and solution boxes |
| Market analysis | Target market box (you will need research behind it) |
| Service or product line | Our solution box |
| Marketing and sales | Not covered; mention channels in your revenue model or milestones |
| Organization and management | Not covered |
| Funding request | Not covered |
| Financial projections | Not covered; build them in a spreadsheet |
If you are asking for funding, the SBA says to include a funding request and financial projections, and for an established business, income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements for the last three to five years. Treat this PDF as the narrative front page and attach the numbers separately.
How to answer each box
- Mission statement: one sentence on what the business does and for whom. Avoid slogans.
- Problem we solve: describe a specific pain a specific customer has today and what it costs them in time or money.
- Our solution: what you offer and why it is better than what people do now. Describe the product, not the vision.
- Target market: name the customer segment narrowly (type, size, location), as the SBA guidance advises, because a business "won't be for everybody".
- Revenue model: how you earn money: prices, subscriptions, commissions, project fees. Say what is charged and how often.
- 12-month milestones: dated, measurable goals, such as launch dates, customer counts and revenue targets.
Worked example
The form opens with sample text for a small digital services company. Replace it with your own, and compare these two versions of the target market box. Weak: "Small businesses." Better: "Independent dental clinics with one to five dentists in the Greater Toronto Area that have no online booking." The second version tells a reader who you will call on Monday morning. Similarly, replace "Q4: $250K ARR" with a milestone you believe in and can measure, for example "By month 6: 10 paying clients at $400 a month, 4,000 dollars of monthly recurring revenue." The numbers in this example are illustrations, not benchmarks.
Planning in Canada
The Government of Canada's start-a-business guide sets planning as the first step: assessing your readiness, choosing a business structure, doing market research and writing a business plan. The next steps cover naming the business, registering it and getting a business number, and applying for permits and licences. Use the plan to settle the structure and the market before spending money on registration.
Make it believable
Readers trust specific claims they can check. Where you cite a market size or growth figure, name the source and the year in your own working notes. Keep revenue assumptions conservative and show the arithmetic: how many customers, at what price, over how many months. Put costs next to revenue, since the SBA's lean format includes a cost structure and revenue streams side by side. A plan with no cost side looks like hope.
What the generator does not do
No charts, tables, logo, team bios, competitor analysis, cost structure, or financial statements. Text only; long answers wrap on to a second page. The page subtitle mentions seven essentials, but the form has six content boxes, so add anything else directly in those boxes or alongside the PDF. There is no save feature either, so keep your text in a document and paste it in.

Frequently asked questions
What should a one-page business plan include?
The SBA's lean startup format covers key partnerships, key activities, key resources, value proposition, customer relationships, customer segments, channels, cost structure and revenue streams. This generator covers mission, problem, solution, target market, revenue model and milestones, which map loosely to the value proposition, customer segments and revenue streams, plus a milestone list. Add costs, channels, key partners and key resources yourself.
Is a one-page plan enough to get a bank loan or investment?
Usually not on its own. The SBA says lenders and investors commonly request the longer traditional plan, with a funding request and financial projections. A one-page plan is a good way to organise your thinking and to start a conversation.
Can I use this business plan builder for a Canadian business?
Yes. The tool has no country-specific fields, so the plan is just text. The Government of Canada's start-a-business guide lists writing a business plan as part of the first planning step, alongside readiness, structure and market research.
Why is a section missing from my PDF?
The generator only prints a heading when its box has text. If you cleared the mission statement or milestones, they are omitted. Fill the box in and generate the PDF again.
How long can my answers be?
As long as you like. The PDF wraps text and adds a new page if it runs past the bottom margin. Short, specific answers read better, so keep each box to a few sentences.
Does the tool save my plan or send it anywhere?
No. The PDF is built in your browser and downloaded to your device. The page does not store your text, so reloading the page clears it. Keep your own copy.
How often should I update my business plan?
Review it whenever something material changes, such as a new product, a new price, a new market or a missed milestone, and at least once a year. Dates in the milestone box make an out-of-date plan easy to spot.
What are the seven essentials mentioned at the top of the page?
The form has six content boxes (mission, problem, solution, target market, revenue model and milestones) plus the business name, industry and date. Anything else you consider essential, such as the team or costs, should be added in those boxes or as an attachment.
