How to binary to octal by hand
Split the bits into groups of three from the right, padding the left with zeros. Each group is a digit from 0 to 7: 000 is 0, 001 is 1, 010 is 2, 011 is 3, 100 is 4, 101 is 5, 110 is 6, 111 is 7.
For 111101101: 111 is 7, 101 is 5 and 101 is 5, so the octal value is 755, the familiar Unix permission mode rwxr-xr-x.
