Split the bits into groups of four starting from the right, padding the left with zeros if needed. Replace each group with its hex digit: 0000 to 1001 are 0 to 9, then 1010 is A, 1011 is B, 1100 is C, 1101 is D, 1110 is E and 1111 is F.

For 10100011: 1010 is A and 0011 is 3, so the hex value is A3.

Binary to hex FAQ

How do you convert binary to hexadecimal?

Group the bits in fours from the right and replace each group with one hex digit (0-9, A-F). 1010 0011 becomes A3.

What is 1010 in hex?

A. Binary 1010 is decimal 10, and 10 is written A in hexadecimal.

Why do programmers use hex instead of binary?

Four bits fit in one hex digit, so a byte is always two digits. FF is far easier to read and copy than 11111111.

Is the hex output upper or lower case?

Upper case. Hex digits are not case sensitive, so ff and FF mean the same value.
