How it works / 算法: multiply the 8 digits by 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 4, 1, add the digits of every product, and add those up. Since April 2023 the total must be divisible by 5 (before that, by 10). 各位數依序乘以 1,2,1,2,1,2,4,1，乘積的各位數相加，總和須可被 5 整除（舊制為 10）。

How the 統一編號 checksum works 檢查碼邏輯
The unified business number (統一編號, 統編) is the 8-digit number the Ministry of Finance assigns to businesses and withholding units in Taiwan. The Fiscal Information Agency announced that unused numbers were expected to run out in 2024 (民國 113), and changed the check logic so that new numbers keep the same 8-digit format. Public and private systems were asked to update their checks by 31 March 2023, with newly generated numbers expected to be released from April 2023.

04595252 gives Z = 35: valid under the current rule only. That is exactly why the rule changed: it makes room for numbers the old rule would reject.
When the 7th digit is 7 第七碼為 7
The 7th digit is multiplied by 4, so a 7 gives 28, whose digits add to 10 and then 1. The Ministry's attachment says that in this case the 7th term may be taken as 1 or as 0, and the number is valid if either total passes. For example 10458575 gives 21 or 20, and 10458570 gives 16 or 15 (valid under the current rule only). This tool shows both totals when it applies.
Checksum only, not a registry lookup
A pass means the 8 digits are internally consistent. It does not confirm the number was issued, is active or belongs to any company. Many random 8-digit strings pass the checksum, so a pass is weak evidence on its own. To confirm a business exists, check it with the relevant Taiwanese government registry.
