Slip cost = rate per foot x billed length, plus flat fees, plus tax. A 36 ft boat at $15 per foot per month is $540 a month before fees, or 610.20 dollars with 13% tax.
Worked example
A 36 ft boat at $15 per foot per month: 36 x 15 = $540 base. With 13% tax that is 610.20 dollars a month, 16.95 per foot or 20.06 per day. Same boat quoted $15 per foot for the whole 6 month season, with $40 shore power and $25 other fees a month: base $540 + fees (40 + 25) x 6 = $390 = $930; with 13% tax $1,050.90, or $175.15 a month.
How it works
Total = (rate per foot x billed length x periods) + flat fees, then plus tax. This is arithmetic on your marina's own quote; no marina rate is built in. Marinas differ in what they bill by (boat length, slip length, or the longer), what electricity, water, pump-out and winter storage cost, and whether tax applies, so read the contract before you compare.
The per-foot and per-day figures make two quotes comparable. Remember costs beyond the slip: haul-out, winter storage, insurance and fuel dock prices.
This tool uses plain arithmetic and your own figures; no published standard sits behind it. Planning aid only, not professional, engineering or safety advice. Your vehicle, trailer, tire, battery and boat manuals and the weight labels on your equipment come first; when in doubt, weigh it or ask a qualified professional.
FAQ
How is marina slip cost calculated?
Most marinas multiply a rate per foot by the length they bill, then add fees for power, water and services, and tax where it applies.
Is the rate per foot of boat or of slip?
It varies by marina. Some bill by boat length, some by slip length, some by whichever is longer. Check the contract.
How do I compare a seasonal quote with a monthly one?
Compare the monthly equivalent and the cost per foot. This tool shows both for any period you enter.
What fees are not in the slip rate?
Shore power, water, pump-out, wifi, winter storage and club dues are often billed separately. Add the flat monthly ones in the fee boxes. The fee boxes are not used for a nightly rate; add nightly fees to the rate per foot.
Does this include haul-out and storage?
No. Add haul-out, winter storage and insurance separately.
