Shoe sizing is not a single global standard — US, UK, and EU sizes each grew out of different measuring traditions (the "barleycorn" for US/UK, and the "Paris point" for EU), so exact equivalents vary slightly between brands and even between shoe styles from the same brand. This converter uses the standard, foot-length-based relationship between the three systems: UK and US sizes both increase by one barleycorn (about 8.5 mm of foot length) per whole size, with US sizes running about one size ahead of UK for men and two ahead for women; EU (Paris point) sizes increase by two-thirds of a centimetre per size.

Because it's derived from foot length rather than copied from any single retailer's chart, it lines up closely with published standards references, though you may still see some brands run half a size differently — when in doubt for a specific pair, check that brand's own chart.
