Not medical advice. This is a statistical estimate from the parents’ heights, not a diagnosis or a forecast for your child. Nutrition, health conditions and timing of puberty all matter. If you are worried about your child’s growth, ask your doctor, who will use growth charts and your child’s own measurements.
Worked example
Father 180 cm, mother 165 cm. A boy: ((165 + 13) + 180) / 2 = 179 cm (5 ft 10.5 in), with a likely range of 170.5 to 187.5 cm. A girl: ((180 - 13) + 165) / 2 = 166 cm (5 ft 5.4 in), likely range 157.5 to 174.5 cm.
How it works
The mid-parental or target height method adds a 13 cm (5 in) adjustment for the average difference between men and women. Boys: ((mother’s height + 13 cm) + father’s height) / 2. Girls: ((father’s height - 13 cm) + mother’s height) / 2. About 95 percent of children are expected to land within 8.5 cm (3.35 in) either side of the target, so the range is the target minus and plus 8.5 cm. Feet and inches are converted at 2.54 cm per inch.

FAQ
How accurate is a child height predictor?
It is a population estimate. About 95 percent of children end up within 8.5 cm (3.35 in) of the target height, which is a wide range. It does not use your child’s own growth.
What is the mid-parental height formula?
For boys, (mother + 13 cm + father) / 2. For girls, (father - 13 cm + mother) / 2. The 13 cm is the average height gap between men and women.
Can I use feet and inches?
Yes. Choose feet and inches and enter each parent’s height. The result is shown in both cm and feet and inches.
Why is the range so wide?
Children inherit a mix of genes and are affected by nutrition and health, so the spread around the target is about 8.5 cm either way.
Should I worry if my child is outside the range?
Not by this tool alone. Ask your doctor, who tracks your child on a growth chart over time.
