Inputs

Start each line with the quantity: whole numbers, decimals, fractions (3/4), or mixed numbers (1 1/2) all work. Lines with no leading quantity (like "salt to taste") are left as-is.

Result

Enter your ingredients above to see scaled quantities.

How recipe scaling works

Every ingredient is multiplied by the same ratio: desired servings ÷ original servings. Doubling a 4-serving recipe to 8 servings uses a ratio of 2, so 2 cups of flour becomes 4 cups. Halving it to 2 servings uses a ratio of 0.5, so 2 cups becomes 1 cup. Quantities are rounded to the nearest common kitchen fraction (halves, thirds, quarters, eighths) so results read like a real recipe rather than a long decimal.

Scaling assumes a linear relationship, which holds for almost every ingredient. It does not hold perfectly for leavening agents (baking powder, baking soda, yeast) or seasoning at extreme ratios — large scale-ups often need slightly less leavening and seasoning per unit than a strict multiplication suggests, and cook/bake times rarely scale linearly with pan size. Treat the output as your starting point, then taste and adjust.
