Construction Calculators
Gravel & Aggregate Calculator
Estimate the cubic yards and tons of gravel or crushed stone needed for a driveway, path, or paver base. Density varies a lot by material and compaction, so this gives a loose and a compacted estimate — confirm the exact figure with your supplier before ordering.

Where the density figures come from
Gravel doesn't have one fixed weight — loose material settles and packs down once it's spread and driven over, so a cubic yard covers less area once compacted, and weighs more per yard as it does. The presets here use the bulk density range reported for gravel: 2,460 to 3,240 lb per cubic yard (1,460–1,920 kg/m³), per the gravel bulk-density figures cited on Wikipedia. The "average" preset (3,000 lb/cu yd, ~1.5 tons) is the round figure most gravel and landscape suppliers quote for a general driveway or path estimate.
Actual weight depends on the specific stone (limestone, granite, river rock all differ), moisture content, and how well it's compacted. Ask your supplier for their material's exact density if you're ordering a large or costly load.
