LLM tokens and cost

LLM monthly bill forecaster.

Turn daily traffic and average request size into a monthly bill, then let usage grow each month. Prices are yours to enter.

Monthly bill = requests per day x days x cost per request. 5,000 requests a day at 1,200 input and 300 output tokens, with example prices of $2.00 and $8.00 per 1M, costs $720.00 in month 1. With 10% growth a month it reaches $2,054.24 in month 12, and the year totals $15,396.68.

Worked example

5,000 requests a day, 30 days a month, 1,200 input and 300 output tokens, example prices of $2.00 and $8.00 per 1M. Cost per request = 1,200 x 2 / 1,000,000 + 300 x 8 / 1,000,000 = $0.004800. Month 1 = 5,000 x 30 x $0.004800 = $720.00. With 10% growth a month, month 12 has 150,000 x 1.111 = 427,968 requests and costs $2,054.24. Adding all twelve months gives $15,396.68.

How it works

Requests in month m are requests per day x days per month x (1 + growth)m - 1, and each request costs input tokens x input price / 1,000,000 plus output tokens x output price / 1,000,000. Growth compounds, so a steady 10% a month roughly triples volume in a year.

Use average tokens measured from real traffic where you can. A few very long requests can pull the average above the typical request, and a bill built on a median will under-count. The forecast leaves out caching and batch discounts, retries, taxes and fixed platform fees; see the prompt caching and batch calculators for those effects on the per-request cost.

FAQ

How do I estimate my monthly LLM API bill?

Multiply requests per month by the cost per request. At 5,000 requests a day for 30 days and $0.004800 a request, month 1 costs $720.00.

How does growth change the bill?

Each month the request count is multiplied by 1 plus the growth rate. At 10% a month the bill in month 12 is $2,054.24 against $720.00 in month 1 in this example.

Should I use average or peak tokens?

Use the average measured across real requests for a cost forecast. Use peak or percentile figures when you are sizing limits rather than money.

Does the forecast include discounts?

No. It uses the standard prices you enter. Caching and batch discounts change the effective price per request, so adjust the prices or use the dedicated calculators.
