In a week containing a general holiday the weekly threshold drops to 32 hours, so a normal five-day week can produce overtime it otherwise would not.

- Weekly threshold: overtime starts after 40 hours in a week.
- Daily threshold: overtime also starts after 8 hours in a day.
- Overtime rate: 1.5× the regular rate.
Standard hours are 8 in a day and 40 in a week. In a week containing a general holiday the weekly standard drops from 40 to 32 and overtime is payable on everything past 32. Time off in lieu is possible through a time bank, and overtime wages must be credited to that bank at the overtime rate. Anyone called out is entitled to at least two hours’ pay at the applicable regular or overtime rate, whether or not any work is performed.
Who is exempt
Members of the employer’s family; employees whose duties are primarily supervisory or managerial; people working in mineral exploration — staking, line cutting, geological mapping, geochemical sampling or testing, geophysical surveying, manual stripping; watchmen and caretakers other than those employed by a private security agency; farm workers; guides and outfitters; domestics employed directly by householders; and travelling salespersons. All of them must still be paid for every hour worked at regular rates.

Does a holiday change my Yukon overtime threshold?
Yes. In a week containing a general holiday the weekly standard drops from 40 hours to 32, and overtime is payable on everything beyond 32 in that week.
That means a perfectly ordinary five-day week containing Canada Day can produce eight hours of overtime.
Can I bank overtime in Yukon?
Yes, through a time bank — and Yukon requires that overtime wages be credited to the bank at the overtime rate, not hour for hour.
That is more generous than Alberta, which banks post-2019 overtime at one hour per hour.
Who is exempt from Yukon hours-of-work rules?
Members of the employer’s family, employees whose duties are primarily supervisory or managerial, mineral exploration workers, watchmen and caretakers other than private security agency staff, farm workers, guides and outfitters, domestics employed directly by householders, and travelling salespersons.
They are exempt from the overtime premium, not from being paid: all of them must still be paid for every hour worked at regular rates.
