PEI is the only Atlantic province with rates locked in beyond the next six months: $17.30 from 1 October 2026 and $17.60 from 1 April 2027. The rate is set by the Employment Standards Board on annual review with Executive Council approval rather than by a CPI formula. There is no student or inexperienced rate — the Order fixes the minimum for all employees. Maximum deductions for board and lodging, unchanged since April 2021, are $61.60 a week for board and lodging, $49.50 for board only, $27.50 for lodging only and $4.25 for a single meal, and no charge may be made for a meal not received.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum wage in PEI?
$17.00 an hour since 1 April 2026 — the highest in Atlantic Canada. It rises to $17.30 on 1 October 2026 and $17.60 on 1 April 2027.
PEI is unusual in publishing rates that far ahead, because the Employment Standards Board sets them on annual review rather than through a CPI formula.
Does PEI have a student or inexperienced minimum wage?
No. The Minimum Wage Order fixes the minimum rate of wages for all employees, with no student, youth or inexperienced category.
What the Order does set separately are maximum deductions for board and lodging.
What can my employer deduct for meals and lodging in PEI?
At most $61.60 a week for board and lodging together, $49.50 a week for board only, $27.50 a week for lodging only, and $4.25 for a single meal. These amounts have been unchanged since April 2021.
No charge may be made for a meal that was not received, and net pay after the deduction may not fall below the minimum rate less those amounts.
What is reporting pay in PEI?
A scheduled shift must not be less than three hours, and an employee required to report must be paid for at least three hours.
That applies whether or not there turns out to be three hours of work available.
