NPN lookup, Health Canada.

Search an 8-digit natural product number (NPN) from a supplement label. The local format check is followed by a direct request to Health Canada’s Licensed Natural Health Products Database.

What it does: a Health Canada NPN is an 8-digit licence number with no published check digit, so the format check only catches typos in length or characters. The live lookup against the LNHPD is what shows the product name, dosage form, company and licence date.

What an NPN is

Health Canada gives each licensed natural health product an 8-digit licence number, printed on the label as “NPN”. Health Canada's Licensed Natural Health Products Database (LNHPD) publishes the record behind each number: product name, dosage form, company, licence date and status.

Health Canada publishes no check-digit rule for these numbers, so this page does not invent one. It checks that you typed 8 digits and then asks the LNHPD directly. Example: 80000001 is Flax Seed Oil 1000 mg from Wampole Group L.P., licensed 2004-03-03.

Homeopathic products may carry a DIN-HM instead. Health Canada’s LNHPD includes both NPN and DIN-HM records; use the official LNHPD search if you have a DIN-HM, because this page’s input is limited to NPN-labelled numbers.

Not the US NPN: a bare “NPN” elsewhere can mean a National Producer Number for US insurance agents. This page is Health Canada only.

Format check plus live lookup — not medical advice

The format check runs in your browser and cannot confirm a number was issued; only the lookup can. The lookup sends the 8-digit number directly from your browser to Health Canada’s public LNHPD API; TNAADO stores and logs nothing. A licence being on file is not an endorsement of the product, and nothing here is medical advice. Ask a pharmacist or doctor before taking a supplement.
