How weight changes from planet to planet

Your weight on another world is your Earth weight multiplied by that world's surface gravity compared with Earth's. NASA lists the ratio for each body: the Moon is 0.166, Mars 0.377, Venus 0.907, Saturn 0.916 and Jupiter 2.36. Your mass, the amount of matter in you, never changes. Only the pull on it does, which is what a bathroom scale reads.

Worked example. At 150 lb on Earth: Moon 150 x 0.166 = 24.9 lb; Mars 150 x 0.377 = 56.6 lb; Jupiter 150 x 2.36 = 354.0 lb.

For the gas giants (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) there is no solid surface, so NASA gives gravity at the 1 bar pressure level in the atmosphere, roughly where air pressure equals sea level on Earth. Pluto is left out because NASA's own fact-sheet pages for Pluto disagree with each other on its surface gravity.

Frequently asked questions

How much would I weigh on the Moon?

About 16.6 percent of your Earth weight, using NASA's gravity ratio of 0.166. A 150 lb person would read 24.9 lb.

Where would I weigh the most?

On Jupiter among the planets listed, where NASA gives a surface gravity of 2.36 times Earth’s at the 1 bar level.

Does my mass change on other planets?

No. Mass is the amount of matter and stays the same. Weight is the force gravity exerts on that mass, so it changes with the planet.

Why are the gravity ratios given to three digits?

They are NASA’s published values. Gravity also varies with latitude and altitude on every planet, so treat the result as an average.

Scope

Educational estimate using NASA published equatorial surface gravity. Values for gas giants refer to the 1 bar level, not a solid surface.
