Formulas: utilization is balance ÷ credit limit. Overall utilization is the sum of balances divided by the sum of limits. Payoff needed for a target is balance − limit × target % (never below zero), shown per card and for the total. Proportional allocation splits your payment in proportion to each balance, rounded to the cent. Highest-utilization-first pays the card with the highest balance-to-limit ratio down to zero, then the next.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau describes the ratio as the amount of credit you are using divided by the total amount you have available, and notes that closing a card can raise it: see Does it hurt my credit to close a credit card? (CFPB, Ask CFPB).

This tool does not estimate any credit score or claim what a given percentage will do to one; scoring models and lenders differ. Cards with a limit of zero are ignored because the ratio is undefined. Allocation is arithmetic only and ignores interest, minimum payments and statement dates, which affect the balance a lender actually reports. Everything is calculated in your browser from the numbers you type; nothing is sent anywhere.
