Worked example
A video takes 20 hours. It gets 50,000 views at a $3.00 RPM: 50 x $3.00 = $150.00. Costs are $80.00 for an editor and $10.00 for music, $90.00 in all. Profit is $60.00, which over 20 hours is $3.00 an hour. At 4 videos a month that is $240.00 for 80 hours.
To pay yourself $25.00 an hour, a video would need $25.00 x 20 + $90.00 = $590.00 of revenue, which at a $3.00 RPM means about 196,667 views.
How it works
Revenue per video = views / 1,000 x RPM + sponsor money + other income. Profit = revenue - costs. Hourly pay = profit / hours. Count every hour: research, scripting, filming, editing, thumbnail, upload and replying to comments.
The RPM is yours to enter from YouTube Studio; this tool applies no rate. A video earns over months and years, so a single video's first-month views understate it. The figures are before income tax and are an estimate, not a promise of earnings. For revenue from views alone, use the YouTube earnings calculator.
