Wi-Fi password generator.
A strong random Wi-Fi password for your router, easy to read out and type on a phone or smart TV. Made on your device, nothing sent or saved.
How it works
- Random characters: every character comes from
crypto.getRandomValueswith rejection sampling. Letters and numbers are always included; look-alike characters (0 O 1 l I) are off by default because you will often read this one out or type it on a TV remote. - Dashes are part of the password: the optional blocks of 4 (like
Kd7P-q3Xm-…) make it easier to read, and you must enter the dashes. The entropy figure counts only the random characters, because the dashes are in fixed places. - Length limit: a WPA/WPA2-Personal passphrase is 8 to 63 ASCII characters. The slider stops at 50 random characters so that, with dashes, the total never exceeds 63. WPA3-Personal (SAE) passwords are not bound by that limit, but a network that also allows WPA2 still needs a passphrase within it.
- Private: no network request and nothing stored. This tool does not talk to your router; you paste the password into its settings yourself.
A 20-character letters-and-numbers password without look-alikes carries about 117 bits of entropy. For a longer, memorable alternative use the Diceware passphrase generator, and for other accounts the password generator.

- hostapd.conf (hostap project): the WPA-PSK ASCII passphrase is 8..63 characters, and SAE passwords are not bound by that constraint.
FAQ
How long can a Wi-Fi password be?
A WPA/WPA2-Personal passphrase is 8 to 63 ASCII characters. This generator makes up to 50 random characters, and with dashes the total stays within 63.
What makes a good Wi-Fi password?
Length and randomness. A random 20-character password of letters and numbers carries about 117 bits of entropy and is still easy to type. Avoid names, addresses and the router’s default password.
Do I have to type the dashes?
Yes, if you choose grouping, the dashes are part of the password. Untick the option for a plain string, and the entropy figure will stay the same because only the random characters count.
Should Wi-Fi passwords include symbols?
They are optional. Symbols widen the character set, but letters and numbers are easier to read out and enter on a TV or console, and a longer password gains more than a larger set does. Some devices handle special characters poorly.
Does this change my router’s password?
No. This page only makes a password. You copy it and set it yourself in your router’s admin settings, then reconnect your devices.
Is the Wi-Fi password sent or stored anywhere?
No. It is generated in your browser with no network request and no storage.
