Frequently asked questions
How much tax do I pay on $80,000 in New Zealand?
PAYE on $80,000 is $16,277.50, plus $1,400.00 ACC earners' levy, in 2026-27. With KiwiSaver at 3.5% the take-home is about $59,522.50.
What are the NZ tax brackets for 2026-27?
Inland Revenue lists 10.5% up to $15,600, 17.5% to $53,500, 30% to $78,100, 33% to $180,000 and 39% above. The 2026-27 payroll specification uses the same thresholds as 2025-26.

It is 1.75% of earnings for 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, charged on earnings up to $156,641, so the most you pay is $2,741.22. It is deducted with PAYE.
Is KiwiSaver deducted before or after tax?
PAYE is calculated on your full gross pay and your KiwiSaver contribution is deducted as well, so KiwiSaver comes out of take-home pay. The calculator subtracts it from net pay.
