Not sure? Keep neutral. In daylight, blue-purple wrist veins and silver jewellery suggest cool; green veins and gold suggest warm.

Lip and blush families

A neutral lean, medium intensity. Lips: Rose-nude, Soft berry, Brick-rose. Blush: Soft rose, Dusty peach-pink. These are family names, not brand shades.

Style guide only. Screens show colours differently, and the best test is a colour held near your face in daylight.

How the colours are chosen

Each of 40 named garment colours is converted from sRGB to CIE L*a*b* and then to LCh: lightness L*, chroma C* (intensity) and hue angle h on a 360° circle. Your inputs set four numbers and every colour gets a score from them.

The 10 highest scores are shown, at most 3 per hue family so the list is not all one colour. The 4 lowest are the “avoid or style carefully” list, at most 2 per family. Lip and blush families come from your temperature and depth.

Worked example

Green eyes, brown hair, light skin, warm undertone: temperature +0.8, average depth 0.43, so target lightness is about 61. Camel (warmth +0.8, L* 66) scores highest on temperature and depth, moss green and sage get the echo bonus from the green iris, and mauve (about 339°, near 150° + 180° = 330°) gets the contrast bonus.

What this is not

The weights, the anchor angles and the warm-to-cool tags are our design choices, written out so you can check them. Personal colour advice is stylist convention and has not been validated as a measurement, and screens display colours differently. Treat the result as a shortlist and judge it with a swatch near your face in daylight.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best colours to wear with green eyes and brown hair?

The rules favour two groups: colours that echo the green (moss, sage, forest, emerald, olive) and colours across the hue circle from it (plum, mauve, burgundy, raspberry), which make green eyes look more vivid. Which of those lands on top for you depends on your undertone, so set it above.

Does eye colour or skin undertone matter more?

In this tool undertone and overall depth decide the base of the list, because they affect how a colour sits next to your whole face. Eye colour adds a bonus to colours that echo or contrast with the iris, so it reorders the list rather than overruling it.

How do I tell if my undertone is warm, cool or neutral?

Common at-home checks: in daylight, bluish-purple wrist veins suggest cool, greenish veins suggest warm, a mix suggests neutral. Silver flattering you suggests cool, yellow gold suggests warm. These are rules of thumb, so choose neutral if the checks disagree.

Can I really never wear the colours in the avoid list?

You can. The list marks colours that are the weakest match for your overall colouring, and the usual fix is to keep them away from your face, for example as trousers or a bag, or to put a flattering colour next to your skin as a scarf, collar or earrings.

Is black a bad colour for fair or light colouring?

Black is a very deep, low-chroma colour, so on fair, low-contrast colouring it can look heavy. Deeper or high-contrast colouring usually carries it well. Charcoal, navy or deep plum are softer near-substitutes.

Is this the same as a 12-season colour analysis?

No. Seasonal analysis is a stylist system with its own named palettes. This tool uses a simpler written rule set: temperature, depth, contrast and eye hue. Neither is measured science, so treat both as a starting point and trust what you see in daylight.
