Voter ID (EPIC) number format check.
Test whether an Indian voter ID (EPIC) number fits the common pattern of three letters followed by seven digits. Format only, in your browser. To confirm that a card is real, use the Election Commission portal.
How it works: most EPIC numbers are 3 letters then 7 digits. No check digit is published, so this only catches typos in length and character type.

What an EPIC number is
EPIC stands for Electors Photo Identity Card. The number on the card is usually three letters followed by seven digits. Older or state-issued cards can use other layouts, so a non-match is a prompt to check the card, not proof of a fake.
Format only, not verification
Nothing here contacts the Election Commission, and a matching pattern does not mean the number is on an electoral roll. Use the official voter services portal to search the roll or check your details.
Confirm it with the issuer
To check that a number really exists, use the official service: Election Commission of India voter services portal. This page never contacts it and does not pass your number to it.
Sources
No ECI document that specifies the EPIC layout was retrievable on 2026-10-16 (the portal blocked automated requests). The 3 letters + 7 digits pattern is the commonly reported layout and is presented as format-only.
Frequently asked questions
What is the format of a voter ID number in India?
The common layout is three letters followed by seven digits, for example ABC1234567. Some older cards differ.
Does a matching number mean the voter ID is genuine?
No. It only means the pattern fits. Check the card on the official portal.
Is the number stored?
No. The check runs locally in your browser.
Format only — not a registry lookup
This tool checks the number entirely in your browser. It does not query any government register and does not imply official verification. A matching pattern is not proof that the number was ever issued or belongs to anyone. An ID number is personal data: nothing you type is transmitted, stored or logged, but use a sample number where you can.
