Barreau du Québec Tableau de l’Ordre lookup.
People often search for the Barreau’s “tableau des membres”. The Barreau du Québec’s own name for its roll of members is the Tableau de l’Ordre, and its “Trouver un avocat” page lets you search it. The official page is in French; this English guide explains the two searches.
Use the official register for the answer: the Barreau du Québec’s own listing is the authoritative record, and this page cannot confirm anyone’s licence or standing. Open the register below, compare the details with the person who contacted you, and confirm with the regulator if anything does not match.
What the Barreau register shows and how to search it
What the regulator says its register shows:
- “Recherche par avocat” gives access to all lawyers who are members in good standing (“membres en règle”) of the Tableau de l’Ordre; you search by last name / first name (“Nom / prénom”).
- “Recherche par critères” finds lawyers, mediator-lawyers or arbitrator-lawyers who have agreed to be referred to the public, filtered by area of law, region, firm or employer, and whether they accept legal aid mandates.
How the register is searched:
- To check whether a specific person is a lawyer, use “Recherche par avocat” (name search), not the criteria search, which only lists lawyers who accepted public referrals.
- The contact details shown are those the members provided to the Barreau.
Verify a lawyer in Quebec
The register belongs to the Barreau du Québec. Open it, search for the person, and treat its record as the authoritative answer.
Why check a lawyer in Quebec before you hire or pay
Confirming that a person claiming to be a lawyer is on the regulator’s register is a basic step before paying a retainer or acting on a demand letter. Impersonation of lawyers is a known scam pattern, and a name or number that looks plausible tells you nothing; only the register is evidence.
Limits to keep in mind
- If a search fails, the Barreau says you can ask Info-Barreau to verify: 514 954-3411, toll-free 1 844 954-3411, or infobarreau@barreau.qc.ca.
- Lawyers’ contact details are protected by a captcha, and the Barreau says using them for commercial solicitation is abusive and contrary to its privacy statement.
- Not appearing in the criteria search does not mean someone is not a lawyer, because that search lists only lawyers who agreed to be referred.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Barreau du Québec “tableau des membres”?

How do I verify that someone is a Quebec lawyer?

The search by lawyer covers members in good standing of the Tableau de l’Ordre. The search by criteria (area of law, region, firm, legal aid) only returns lawyers who agreed to be referred to the public.

No. It does not search anything and nothing you type here is transmitted. It explains the official page and links to it; the Barreau’s own result is the authoritative record.
