Worked example
A wheel-nut spec says 100 N·m. That is 100 ÷ 1.355818 = 73.756 lbf·ft, or 885.07 lbf·in, or 10.197 kgf·m. Going the other way, 250 lbf·ft × 1.355818 = 338.95 N·m.
How it works
Every value is converted to newton metres first, then to the other units. The factors are 1 lbf·ft = 1.355818 N·m, 1 lbf·in = 0.1129848 N·m and 1 kgf·m = 9.80665 N·m (NIST SP 811). Kilogram-force centimetre is one hundredth of a kgf·m, so 1 kgf·cm = 0.0980665 N·m. Since 1 lbf·ft is 1.355818 N·m, N·m to lbf·ft multiplies by 0.737562.
"lb-ft", "ft-lb" and "lbf·ft" are all used for the same torque unit: pounds of force acting at a distance of one foot. Pounds-force times feet is also how work and energy are written, but a torque in lbf·ft is not an amount of energy.

FAQ
How do I convert Nm to lb-ft?
Multiply newton metres by 0.737562 (divide by 1.355818). 100 N·m is 73.756 lbf·ft.
How do I convert lb-ft to Nm?
Multiply pound-force feet by 1.355818. 250 lbf·ft is 338.95 N·m.
Is a foot-pound the same as a pound-foot?
For torque, yes: lb-ft, ft-lb and lbf·ft all mean pound-force acting at one foot. This calculator treats them as the same unit.
What is kgf·m?
A non-SI unit: one kilogram-force acting at one metre, equal to 9.80665 N·m. kgf·cm is one hundredth of that.
How many lbf·in are in a lbf·ft?
Twelve. 1 lbf·ft is 12 lbf·in, which matches the factors 1.355818 and 0.1129848 N·m (the ratio is 12).
