Worked example

You are 50 wins and 50 losses (50.0%) and want 55%. If you win 70% of your games from now on, you need x more games where (50 + 0.7x) / (100 + x) = 0.55. Solving gives x = (0.55 x 100 - 50) / (0.70 - 0.55) = 33.3, so 34 more games (about 24 wins and 10 losses), ending at 55.22%. Winning every game, 55% takes (0.55 x 100 - 50) / (1 - 0.55) = 11.1, so 12 straight wins. For 60% it takes 25 straight wins.

How it works

Games needed = (target x games played - wins) / (future win rate - target), rounded up. It follows from setting (wins + future rate x extra games) / (games + extra games) equal to the target. The same formula works downward: if your rate is above the target, the future rate must be below it. The more games you have played, the more games it takes to move the percentage, which is why a high-volume account changes slowly.

This is a straight piece of arithmetic on your own numbers; it assumes your future win rate stays constant, which real matchmaking will not guarantee. Ranked systems may match you with tougher opponents as you win, so treat the future win rate as an assumption.

FAQ

How do I calculate how many wins I need to raise my win rate?

Use (target x games played - wins) / (future win rate - target). Enter your numbers above to have it done and rounded up.

How many straight wins to reach a win rate?

Set the future win rate to 100%. From 50 wins and 50 losses, 25 straight wins gets to 60%.

Why is it so hard to move a high-game-count win rate?

Each new game is a smaller share of your total, so more games are needed to shift the percentage by the same amount.

Can I use this to lower a win rate?

Yes. If your current rate is above the target, enter a future win rate below the target and it gives the games needed to fall to the target.

Is win rate the same as rank?

No. Win rate is just wins divided by games. Rank systems also account for opponent strength, so they can move differently.
