How this works
A bathroom is a small room with a large share of labour, because plumbing, waterproofing and tile all need skilled trades in a tight space. This calculator holds back your contingency, then divides the rest across nine line items by percentage. Amount = (total - contingency) x (item percent / sum of percents). Percentages that do not add to 100 are scaled automatically.
The preset shares (installation labour 35, tile and surfaces 15, fixtures 15, vanity and countertop 12, and so on) are a common rule of thumb, not a published standard. Replace them with the shares from your own quotes. No regional price data is included; enter your own total.
Worked example. An $18,000 total with a 10 percent contingency holds back $1,800 and leaves $16,200. With the preset shares that is $5,670 for installation labour (35 percent), $1,944 for the vanity and countertop (12 percent), $2,430 for fixtures (15 percent) and $2,430 for tile and surfaces (15 percent), with the rest across plumbing, electrical, paint, permits and other.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split a bathroom remodel budget?
Start with your total, hold back a contingency, then give each line item a share. The preset shares are a rule of thumb with labour as the largest line, and you should overwrite them with figures from your own quotes.
Why is labour such a large share in a bathroom?
Plumbing, waterproofing, tile setting and electrical work are all done by trades in a small space, so the labour share is usually larger than in a room with fewer systems. Your quotes show the real split.
What happens if the shares do not add to 100 percent?
They are scaled proportionally and the page tells you the sum you entered.
Does this include regional prices?
No. You enter the total, and the calculator only divides it.
